Marie started playing clarinet at school, and studied music at Lancaster University. She then started working with the English Symphony Orchestra as Orchestral Manager where she stayed for 3 years. Whilst studying Clarinet with several prominent clarinettists such as David Campbell, she got her LTCL diploma in 1997. About this time she also started playing the saxophone.
In 1998 Marie left the ESO to study an MPhil in British Opera at Birmingham University, and to gain more work as a freelance clarinettist. She started teaching woodwind part time, playing more popular music and joined several rock and theatre bands. She was one of the founder teachers of Worcester Rock School, where she taught sax and vocals, stage techniques and managed the Junior Band.
Now Marie can be found in various guises. She still plays as a freelance orchestral musician on both sax and clarinet, as well as performing in both solo and chamber recitals. She plays in various soul and blues bands and now plays and sings backing vocals with the sell-out tribute band, the UK Pink Floyd Experience.
In addition, she teaches in schools in Worcester and has written a well received book Instrumental Teaching in School; A Definitive Guide. She gained a PGCE in 2005, and has been an Examiner for Trinity-Guildhall for 12 years. In between working as Director of the CME course at the Elgar School of Music, she is also now working on a doctoral degree exploring the motivation of teachers within the instrumental teaching world.
John Hymas – Violin/Accordion
John is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and teacher.
His string playing and writing can be heard on recordings by bands as diverse as The Psychedelic Furs, The London Community Gospel Choir, Orquestro do Porto, folk crossover band, Hoover the Dog and Little Rumba.
Recent composition projects have included writing scores for Diversions Dance Company, Theatr Powys, Presteigne Festival and numerous community projects. He teaches music mainly in primary schools and runs workshops where he encourages children to create there own music and perform with real instruments.
His music has also been used on a number of occasions by BBC television’s Imagine series.
His writing style is varied ranging from contemporary classical to folk, jazz, pop, rock and mixtures of all of these styles.

Joanne Jefferis - Violoncello
Joanne Jefferis studied musical performance at Birmingham Conservatoire under the tuition of John Todd, former Cellist of the Coull Quartet.
During her time at the Conservatoire Joanne participated in orchestral workshops with conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Pinchas Zukermann and Mark Elder. Joanne left the Conservatoire in 2000 after gaining a BMus (Hons) degree and a Master of Arts degree.
Joanne enjoys a varied career with recording work including solo playing on documentary sound tracks for ITV and Channel 4 series as well as for film scores including King Lear starring Brian Blessed. Joanne performs regularly as freelance musician for orchestras including The English Symphony Orchestra and the Elgar Camerata and as principal cellist with the Central England Camerata. Joanne manages her own string quartet 'VLO' who perform across the country for weddings and events as well as providing professional string sections/ensembles for studio, theatre and other performances under the name of 'Bring the Strings'.
As well as private teaching at home, Joanne runs ‘Music for Adults @ Holt’ where Joanne offers Cello lessons, day workshops for mixed ensembles and Cello ensembles. Joanne is also the founder and director of The Severn Cello Ensemble, The Phoenix Chamber Group and The Ventura Chamber Orchestra.
Joanne lives in Worcestershire with her husband and two daughters and enjoys playing a beautiful English cello made in London c.1790.
Deborah Anderson started playing the double bass during the final years of free music lesson provision, when it was the only instrument left in her school. Luckily, it was a good match. She played in various ensembles at county and national level in Scotland before studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Robin McGee.
Her playing career has been eclectic, from large symphony orchestras to small ensembles, always with a keen interest in teaching and education.
In London, freelance work ranged from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and English Chamber Orchestra to Mark Morris Dance Co at Sadler’s Wells and New York City Ballet at the Royal Festival Hall. Deborah has always enjoyed theatre work, from her first student production of Stravinsky’s ‘The Soldiers Tale’ to a lengthy season at London’s Almeida theatre and a few seasons touring with Mid Wales Opera. Deborah has toured with several musical theatre classics, including Beauty and the Beast and The King and I. She now lives in South Wales, combining family life with orchestral and ensemble work and still loves playing her big violin (no, it still doesn’t fit under her chin)!
